Most of my life I worked in the media industry. I started in radio, were I had a tiny income – but was happy every day. Why? Because media is fast, competitive and ever changing. Nothing is older than yesterdays news. If you want to survive, you have to find new stories every day. Instead of changing ones and than getting adjusted to the new “status quo” – I had to get used to change.
Turns out this was excellent preparation for today’s business world.
Now we all work in media. Nothing is stable anymore. All business models are changing. Constantly. In this world it is difficult to survive if you try to create a perfect product. For example: Your new fax machine might be nearly perfect – but who cares when everyone uses email?
Don’t be afraid
Nothing is secure anymore. Nothing can be counted on. Except one thing: Your ability to learn and adapt. Your brain and heart are both muscles. Train them every day to deal with new ideas and new challenges. Soon they become strong – and something wonderful happens: You get used to… change.
PS
The trick to change in career and business: Take small risks every day – and see what happens.
