Marley Spoon is not out to revolutionize the German foodmarket – but every market. Next steps in the expansion are the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. For an international company it is important to have a diverse workforce. One thing that we at Immigrant Spirit like about Marley Spoon: They don’t hire the best people in Germany. They hire the best people. Full stop.
Part Two of our Double Interview: What defines “best” when it comes to software engineers, explains Luca Pette, Head of Technology at Marley Spoon:
IS: Luca, Marley Spoon is growing very fast. As Head of Technology you are a key person in the companies success. You already hired a great number of software developers to move Marley Spoon ahead…
Luca: Yes, so far we have hired about 50 people. I also have most of my IT team together. But there are still positions open…
IS: So, what kind of professionals are you looking for?
Luca: The most important positions now are a QA Engineer and Javascript Engineers.
IS: Tell us a bit about these positions. Which qualities would your “perfect match” possess?
Luca: For the QA Engineer: Very good analytical skills. The ideal candidates also knows how to write code themselves. To be successful she or he should be able to create a fully integrated test suite. Also for mobile testing of course. For this position you should have between 5 to ten years of experience in my opinion. Strong soft skills are also important, because the QA Engineer should work closely with the software developers.
IS: And the Javascript Engineer?
You need to be able to work with different browsers. This is really important. You should also have a clear focus on automated testing. When it comes to experience: The number of different projects that you have worked on, tells me much more about your experience than the number of years that you are in the workforce. Besides that: Enjoy the startup way of working and be a real teamplayer!
Have you made the same experience?
You are well educated, you have professional experience and most important: You have drive and ambition. You want to make a contribution and build a good career.
But German employers don't value your talent. You apply for job after job. You spent hours editing your CV and cover letter to fit perfectly. And then: You don't even get an answer.
There is a way forward! Chris Pyak and the rest of us at Immigrant Spirit GmbH: We want you to succeed.
