A funny German: Michael Mittermeier
In Germany he is a star with sold out shows and regular TV appearances in front of millions of viewers. Michael Mittermeier is a very rare species: A German comedian.
Even more rare: A few years ago Michael started to perform in english. He moved to New York for 6 months and started to perform again in small clubs, promoting his own show with leaflets on the street. A big change from the Celebrity Status he enjoys in Germany.
In this way Michael Mittermeier embrace’s the ImmigrantSpirit: By exposing himself to new enviroments and ideas that force him to reinvent himself – his Fan’s are grateful: While other comedians perform the same gag’s year after year Michael Mittermeiers shows are always fresh.
MacGyver in Germany
Michael became famous with his german show “Zapped – a TV junkie freaks out“. A fast paced, witty travel to TV shows of our past and how the affect our view of the real world. It seems Michael Mittermeier has a soft spot in his heart for „MacGyver “ who is regulary mentioned in his shows.
Another passion of Michael Mittermeier is music. You want to envy Michael – listen to this story:
By chance on stage with U2
It`s 1987. U2 is playing in munich. Bono plays „People get ready“ from the Impressions and makes mistakes. Two Times. So Bono asks „Anyone here who can play a guitar?“ – Enter Michael Mittermeier! Bono shows him the chords – and Mittermeier really plays „People get ready“ with U2! Michael told later that in this moment he realised he wants to be on stage for a living. (On Michaels 40th birthday Bono sent a video greeting to Michael)
Lesson to be learned: If there is an opportunity – you have to say “ME!”
Rocking with Guano Apes
Another musical success of Michael is his cooperation with the Guano Apes. Under the name „Michael Mittermeier vs. Guano Babes“ they procuded „Kumba Yo!“ an extremly funny parody of a popular church song, „Do Gooder’s“ and …well a million german klischee’s.
If you have a chance to ask a German friend about all the implied jokes in this video – go ahead! Here is the link to „Michael Mittermeier vs. Guano Babes. Kumba Yo!“
