It was a grey day when I left my hotel in Alexander Platz to meet with Peter Wurstner, Human Resources Manager of crobo GmbH. I confess: it was hard going out with negative temperatures and the fog that hid the city’s famous TV Tower. My day changed when I entered their modern, spacious and cozy office. “We want people to like coming to work”, Peter told me, and I understood how they attracted people from over 20 countries to build this company. “We want to be the leader in our market, and we want to have offices all over the world”, said Peter. I believe they are on the right track.
Meet crobo, an online marketing company specialized in the gaming industry in the core of Europe, ready to take over the world. They are looking for great sales and advertisement people to make the difference and bring crobo to lead their niche.
IS: Hello, Peter. Could you please introduce crobo to our readers, and what made the company successful in its niche?
Peter: We do performance marketing for games. This means we offer online marketing services for gaming companies on a user acquisition basis, which is the most efficient way for our clients. This way, we are able to work with the largest gaming companies in the world. On the other hand, we work with different gaming platforms, publishers, bloggers, etc. In easy words, we deliver the right player for the right game.
Our success comes from three main factors. The first is knowledge of this business. Our CEO has a long experience in the gaming industry, and this was crucial for our development with gaming companies.
Also, it is very important to have a very international team. Beyond the multicultural background, this gives us an advantageous position in crucial markets. For China, for example, we have Chinese people who better understand the market and speak the language.
Lastly, it is very important to have the right technology and capable professionals. From the beginning, we had core people that supported and trained their colleagues internally, complemented by outside people bringing fresh ideas to complement our team. We have our process, but we are always open and flexible to new ideas and are ready to adapt to get better every day.
We have 20+ nationalities and around 60 employees now, mainly from Europe but also from different parts of the globe. In July 2014, we opened our office in San Francisco, which has brought a different perspective to the company, and is an important part of our growth strategy.
IS: What is the ideal profile of people you would like to join the company in the future?
Peter: First of all, it is very important to have entrepreneurial thinking. We don’t want people who just focus on delivering tasks, but who see beyond and are ready to bring new ideas to the table. Sharing ideas is one of the characteristics that we love at crobo.
We also want people who are passionate about work, and how we can make things better. We don’t want to stay behind people, always checking what they are doing. We want pro-active professionals who are working on their goals and who go further, thinking outside of the box.
If you are also a gamer, that is also a plus, of course!
IS: How would you describe the work environment at crobo?
Peter: Open, friendly, on the point and target oriented.
IS: Tell me about your experience. What do you like about working for crobo?
Peter: I am here for a year right now. I started in January 2014. Since I came to crobo, I have really enjoyed this international context. I had this at my previous job, with a lot of contacts from all over the world, and I really wanted to have this again. It is great to keep up my skills in English, which is the company’s language, and it is important to meet people from all over the world. Everybody has their own Rucksack, their cultural baggage, which is their experiences, values and history. You can always learn something from everyone, and this is very interesting for me. I like to have this contact with people. I also love the work in crobo, how it is done, and I have had a great time here.
IS: What are some of the positions you currently have open, and what are the main characteristics they should have to be successful in crobo?
Peter: We are actively looking for business development professionals, which will handle both mobile and online traffic. These professionals would ideally be extremely pro-active, searching for new clients and building our company. As in any sales position it is very important to be persistent and to have Charisma.
Second, we are looking for an advertisement manager, who must be reliable and have a great general perspective of the business. These professionals work closely with the game developers/publishers, discussing budget, new games available, what are the most appropriate marketing tools, among other tasks. Knowledge of the gaming industry and/or performance marketing is also important, as we are looking for professionals who are able to hit the ground running and will give great ideas to contribute for our growth.
We are also constantly looking for more developers, both on the front-end and in the back-end. As we use Angularjs as our framework, it is very important that these professionals have knowledge of Angularjs in the front-end. For the back-end, we are looking for PHP professionals.
IS: Considering potential candidates for crobo are reading this, what specifically would you like them to know about the company?
Peter: Looking into the future, we want to continue growing, becoming the leader in this market. We want to have more branch offices all over the world. We already cover most time zones, with offices in China, Germany and the United States. We want to really be there for all of our clients, and we are looking for professionals who want to be a part of this.
Crobo offers a lot of possibilities. You just need to have your eyes open and grab those possibilities. When we see something important for us, we can create more, extend a position or redirect it in a special way to embrace the qualities of our employees.
We have a broad view of people, and we want to maximize people’s potential with us.
