They said the quiet part out loud

I read something last weekend that made me post on LinkedIn, almost right away.

The Economist was the latest source to say the quiet part out loud about the job search.

Recruiters and even hiring managers spend an average of 7 seconds on a CV or Resume before deciding your fate.

If you’re like me, I used to spend hours tailoring my CV to each separate job. Then I would get rejected faster than it took me to complete the next application. (Yes I was mass applying – guilty)

At one point I remember thinking, what’s the point of this then?

It is demoralizing to see your effort wasted because you don’t pass a simple filter like living in Germany, not knowing German, blah blah.

But you know you can do the job… and you can prove it, as long as you get a chance for just a phone call.

Nothing gets properly evaluated in 7 seconds.

Back when I first heard this years ago, I decided I wouldn’t let this be the way I got rejected anymore.

I was going to try my best to have a real discussion first, so I don’t waste my time applying.

If you let me help you, we can do this together.

Talk to you soon!
