Two indipendent news show how the world is changing. India is launching its first mars mission. The Indians are sending their first satellite to the red planet. And they spent only 50 million Dollar to achieve this goal.
At the english skills of Germans rank only 14th among 60 tested countries, says Education First. Germany is relying heavily on its exports. On top of that Germany has a shrinking population and urgently needs skilled immigrants to keep the economy booming. But at the same time Germans still feel quite comfortable with their average performance – not only regarding their english skills.
German english skills a sign of “Mittelmaß”?
Is this how Germans see themselves? Did Germans become to satisfied with their success? And to content to strive for more than “average” in the future? German companies often expect international professionals to arrive with fluent german language skills – instead of investing one year to let them learn the language. (Which language do the customers of such companies speak, I wonder?)
At the same time nations like India work hard to improve their skills and innovate. They are not afraid to make a “big leap” and increase their knowledge.
Germany urgently needs more international talent – people who are still hungry for success.
